Boyacá es una región conocida por el turismo. Aquí se encuentra la Sierra Nevada del Cocuy, donde cada año escalan y caminan miles de turistas. Sin embargo, esta es también una región que ha sido azotada por la violencia y en la cual existen muchos intereses económicos.

Indígenas emberá dicen no a la minería - El Cerro Careperro o Haykatumá en la lengua de los indígenas es uno de los sitios sagrados más importantes de la cultura emberá. Debajo de este cerro hay oro, cobre y molibdeno. Cuando en 2005 el Gobierno otorgó nueve títulos mineros a la empresa estadounidense Muriel Mining Corporation para la explotación de los recursos naturales en el Chocó las comunidades emberá se opusieron con vehemencia.

Colombian Afro-descendant communities commemorate 15 years of forced displacement - 15 years ago more than 4,000 people were displaced from the Lower Atrato region of Choco. Two military operations would mark the local population& 39;s destiny: "Black September" and "Operation Genesis."
