Wir geben nicht auf/We are not giving up
April 2008 saw Nepalese coming to the polls for the Constituent Assembly elections. The elections came after the end of the ten-year conflict and the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement in 2006 between the Maoists and the other political parties. In May 2008 Nepal was declared a Federal Democratic Republic and the king was deposed. Two years after these historical events, the situation for human rights defenders remains difficult. In a country where to date no one has been prosecuted for major human rights abuses, 7 human rights defenders look back at the past two years and suggest what needs to happen for Nepal to move forward.
